Overcoming anxiety was the topic of conversation during a special workshop at Higgs LLP to mark Mental Health Awareness Week.
The award-winning law firm invited its people to the midweek session led by experienced trainer and coach Cathy Lawson.
Cathy explored anxiety in detail and offered advice on what people can do to keep it in check.
Nicola Little, HR Business Partner at Higgs, said: “Mental Health Awareness Week is a Mental Health Foundation initiative we are pleased to support each year.
“This year’s theme is anxiety and our aim is to provide resources that can help increase people's awareness and understanding and signpost them to further support if needed.”
According to a survey carried out recently by the Mental Health Foundation, a quarter of adults feel so anxious that it stops them from doing the things they want to do some or all of the time.
Higgs LLP offers its people a robust mental health and wellbeing strategy built around its Wellbeing Policy, which includes year-round access to trained Mental Health First Aiders.
The First Aiders form part of the firm’s Wellness Team and provide a first port of call and non-judgement support for anyone who is struggling.
This year the Wellness Team has organised a host of events for colleagues, including training sessions, coffee and cake drop-in events and a bring your dog to work day.
Colleagues are also given an additional day off each year when they are encouraged to take part in an activity which boosts their mood.
Nicola added: “Many of these initiatives we have implemented have come on the back of ideas from our people.
“We are currently liaising with colleagues to discover what events they would value moving forward.
“The legal sector can be a pressurised environment so we consider mental health very seriously and take tangible steps towards a healthier workforce. Prevention is always better than cure.”
Mental Health Awareness Week runs until May 21
