Hundreds of employees from across the West Midlands business community laced up their boots to help raise more than £17,000 for charity in Higgs LLP’s annual six-a-side football tournament.
A record-breaking 54 West Midlands businesses entered teams into the latest edition of the long-running competition, which is organised by award-winning law firm Higgs LLP and held at Stourbridge Rugby Club.
The majority of the £17,000 raised will be donated to Higgs’ charity partner of the year, Black Country Women's Aid, with a share also handed to smaller local charities.
Nick Taylor, Managing Partner at Higgs LLP, said: “The Higgs six-a-side tournament continues to go from strength to strength. We were delighted to host more than 50 teams this year, including some for the first time, and it was a fantastic afternoon of friendly but competitive football.
“A total of 186 matches were played so I salute my colleagues who put in so much time and effort on top of their regular workload to make this event what it was.
“It’s great to see companies from right across the business spectrum of the West Midlands come together to raise funds for Black Country Women’s Aid, alongside other partners.
“Black Country Women’s Aid has supported survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence in the West Midlands for 30 years. We are aware that there has been a sharp increase in demand for its services as a direct result of the cost-of-living crisis and it's a privilege to help.”
Higgs has a proud history of supporting good causes through its charitable activities, with more than £150,000 donated over the last eight years.
Ormerod Rutter lifted the trophy as tournament champions, beating in BK Plus in the final.
KPMG finished third while HSBC won the plate.
