Our people are celebrating today, following the announcement that Higgs has been shortlisted in the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion category of the Birmingham Law Society Awards 2025.
The nomination from Higgs which highlighted the work the firm is doing to raise awareness and take action in the local community and the legal profession generally, detailed the involvement and impetus the firm gives to initiatives and campaigns from The Birmingham Law Society, The Tyro Lawyer, the West Midlands Combined Authority, the MBCC Awards and Birmingham Black Lawyers, for example. It also talked about the firm’s status as a Black Country Cornerstone Employer and a Real Living Wage Employer.
Sophie Wardell, People Director at Higgs commented, “Diversity matters, it’s as a simple as that and not as a tick-box exercise but as a sustained attempt to bring about change and take down barriers. This isn’t something that can happen overnight and a great deal of hard work and reflection is needed.
“We are wholeheartedly dedicated to ensuring we represent and empower the very best talent from all walks of life whether they are neurodiverse, marginalised, parents and carers, and more.
“I am very proud of the work we are doing, and this nomination is a testament to the hard work we have done and the strides that we have made not just over the last 12 months but over the past few years. Congratulations to all those shortlisted. We look forward to seeing you on the night!”
This year, the shortlist recognises 167 individuals and firms, all of whom will gather on 13 February for the awards ceremony.
