Higgs LLP's commitment to training and development excellence has been acknowledged with accreditation from a respected global professional body.
The award-winning regional law firm has achieved re-accreditation as a STEP Platinum Employer Partner.
STEP is the global professional association for practitioners with an expertise in family inheritance and succession planning.
The majority of Higgs’ Private Client team who specialise in trusts and estates have achieved the STEP diploma and have carried on their membership with the organisation, while four members of the team are currently studying for the qualification.
The Platinum Employer Partner accreditation is awarded to companies which can prove they deliver exceptional learning and development opportunities.
Liz Gwillim, Learning & Knowledge Manager at Higgs, said: “We are honoured to have received this re-accreditation from STEP, which is a highly regarded award within the industry.
“In order to obtain this re-accreditation, we had to prove we continue to offer the same exceptional levels of learning, development and support to all colleagues.
“This includes encouraging our people to share knowledge, as well as structured continuing professional development with regular reviews.
“We really value the learning and development of our private client practitioners so we support their growth in a number of ways, including funding their STEP diploma fees and giving them study time."

“We also ensure they have all the educational resources they require, as well as giving them the space they need and ensuring they are not overloaded, particularly around exam time.”
Kate Newton is Higgs’ Head of Knowledge Management for Private Client and she makes sure all learners have everything they need to succeed, as well as organising webinars and training.
Liz added: “As our recently updated Learning and Development policy states, we understand that all our people have the potential to grow in their role and we encourage our people to take responsibility for their own development within a supportive learning environment that provides continual development opportunities available for all.”
Liz moved to a full-time role at Higgs in 2021 working closely with the 17 Learning Champions across the legal and support teams.
Higgs has also introduced a firm-wide Learning Management system to provide targeted e-learning as well as regular one-to-one meetings with line managers and mentoring.
