Labour manifesto in focus at Higgs LLP employment law seminar

06 August 2024

"Britain's outdated employment laws are not fit for the modern economy."

West Midlands business owners, managers and HR professionals will have the chance to learn more about the impact the new Labour government is likely to have on employee rights and employment law when law firm Higgs LLP stages its annual employment seminar.

Higgs LLP's employment law specialists will host a showpiece event at its offices in Brierley Hill on Wednesday, September 18, between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

The session will focus on the Labour manifesto and the impact the proposed changes will have on businesses of all sizes. Significant topics to be addressed will be removing the two-year qualifying service provision for unfair dismissal, day one rights for flexible working and parental leave, increased sick pay rates and rights, and the end to "fire and rehire" practices.

Jayne Holliday, Employment Law Legal Director at Higgs LLP, said: "If all of the proposed changes are implemented, the Labour manifesto will undoubtedly have a major impact on employee rights and employment law.

We are already seeing a huge increase in enquiries from concerned business owners and HR professionals who are looking to understand the proposals and their effect on their businesses and employees.

During the seminar, we will delve into each of the key points outlined in the manifesto and give our advice on preparing for these proposed changes. We will explore practical strategies with real-life examples and discuss things businesses can do now to get ahead of the curve and ensure they are compliant moving forward.
