Chloe Shilton
Associate - Restructuring & Insolvency
"I qualified as a Solicitor in 2023 in the restructuring & insolvency team at Higgs LLP. I deal with all aspects of restructuring & insolvency work, although I have a particular interest in dealing with director disqualification investigations and contentious insolvency matters.”
Tell us about your career to date?
Having got my Law Degree from the University of Exeter in 2020, I went on to study the LPC at the University of Law in Chester and achieved a Distinction!
I joined Higgs in September 2021, marking the start of my training contract and the journey which ultimately led me to a career in restructuring & insolvency. Having been allowed to extend my time in the R&I team during my training contract, I spent nine months in the team before qualifying as a solicitor in September 2023 and have been here ever since!
What do you love most about working in the R&I team at Higgs?
While some people may not thrive working in a smaller team, it is easily one of my favourite aspects! We are constantly bouncing ideas off one another and it’s a fantastic environment to learn from the best and get things done when needed. Our collegial dynamic has given me the confidence to run matters with more independence as I progress in my career, while also having support behind me.
I have come across all sorts of weird and wonderful matters, and I love that no two days are ever the same in insolvency.
What’s the one piece of advice you’d give to clients?
Proactivity is crucial when facing financial difficulties. I would always encourage clients to seek advice as early as possible to avoid limiting options later down the line. Prevention is better than cure, and we provide specialist advice to prevent both corporate and personal insolvencies occurring in the first place.
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself?
As a proud Welshie, I take great pleasure in being able to pronounce the longest name in Europe and the second longest one-word pace name in the world!
