Elizabeth Wickson
Senior Associate - Medical Negligence
"I am a clinical negligence solicitor experienced in assisting claimants with complex clinical negligence claims.”
I joined the medical negligence team in 2025. Prior to joining Higgs, I was a senior associate at another large regional law firm.
I have over 13 years’ experience in the fields of clinical negligence and personal injury, having completed my law degree at the University of Warwick. My interest in medicine and the law started here.
I assist clients with a varied spectrum of clinical negligence claims involving children, delays in diagnosis, surgical error and fatal claims. I act for clients who have experienced a significant injury which will have a lifelong impact, including birth, brain and spinal injuries. I am passionate about maternal and neonatal safety and a committed advocate for female health.
I have experience in both the claimant and defendant sides of personal injury and clinical negligence, having qualified as a defendant solicitor specialising in inquests and health and safety prosecutions. 10 years ago, I began to focus purely on assisting clients with medical negligence claims. For me, having this experience has given a unique insight into both sides of the litigation. It enables me to help my clients understand and navigate their legal journey.
I am recognised as a key lawyer by the Legal 500 directory, based on feedback from clients, experts and the barristers I work with.
- Acting for a family against two NHS Trusts, in a claim involving multiple failures to treat sepsis leading to avoidable death. I secured a 6-figure settlement sum for the family. With our help, the family were able to use the case to raise awareness about the importance of identifying and treating sepsis triggers.
- Securing a 6-figure settlement sum for a chef who lost her index finger due to a delay in diagnosis.
- Successfully securing a settlement for a couple who experienced negligence in their fertility treatment, leading to further fertility problems.
- Securing an admission of liability in a complex oral and maxillofacial case leading to 12 avoidable operations, facial disfigurement plus orthopaedic injuries. I secured interim payments which enabled the claimant to fund her ongoing facial reconstructions.
- Securing a six-figure interim payment for a child who suffered a negligent hypoxic brain injury post operatively.
- Securing a five-figure settlement sum for a lady who experienced a negligent birth, leading to avoidable gynaecological and bladder injuries.
- Securing an admission of liability for a delay in diagnosing mitral stenosis leading to an avoidable stroke.
