Katie Williams
Principal Associate - Commercial Property
"I am a commercial property lawyer specialising in all aspects of property development including options, site acquisitions, promotions and disposals but also with a strong background in general commercial property law”
I have been advising on commercial property law for nearly 20 years and during this time I have worked in national, regional and international law firms advising a wide variety of clients including landlords, tenants, retailers, house builders, landowners, developers, promoters, investors and consortiums.
I also took the opportunity to work as an overseas Real Estate Attorney in Bermuda where my work included advising developers, hoteliers and banks in respect of multi-let office developments and a number of hotel/golf resort developments on the island.
During my career so far, as well as gaining experience in general commercial property law matters, I have advised on both small and large-scale residential, mixed-use and commercial developments and I particularly enjoy working with clients on giving strategic advice on complex property development and investment transactions.
I joined Higgs LLP in October 2024, from an international law firm in Birmingham, and I’m excited to be heading up the property development sub-team that forms part of the wider, award-winning commercial property team.
- Acting for a key landowner owner client on a collaborative project with a housebuilder consortium for the development of one of the largest proposed urban extensions in the UK comprising over 5,000 homes and community infrastructure.
- Providing strategic advice for a large commercial development and investment company on its obligations under a hybrid option/promotion agreement and negotiating complex contractual and transfer provisions on a sale of part in order to safeguard future development plans for the wider promotion area.
- Advising on the sale of a vehicle manufacturer and distribution site comprising both unregistered and registered land. The transaction included negotiating overage provisions to capture enhanced value of future sales.
- Being part of the team advising a landowner consortium on a multibillion, multiphase, mixed-use development around Birmingham. This involved negotiating a collaboration agreement between the landowners as well as drafting option agreements, access licences, leasebacks and deeds of easement.
